Five Card Tactics and Tips
Having an understanding of the basic rules and terminologies used in five card poker is not enough to become well versed in the game. In order to succeed at five card poker, it is necessary to have an in depth understanding of the fundamental aspects of the game. However, this is not sufficient to become an expert five card player. If you are to develop advanced five card skills, you will need to study and master certain game strategies and tips. You will also need to spend a lot of time practicing either at casinos or using virtual poker software.
Five card is basically a game that deals with high cards and pairs. Therefore, it is not advisable to play for straights and flushes unless you have the right straight flush cards to do so. You should also be fully aware of what your opponents are doing by being alert and studying their every move. Another strategic point you should take note of is the fact that you need to start off with pairs before you can make any impression in the game. Hence, if you do not have any pair in the first three cards you are dealt, then the right strategy in that instance would be to fold. Other instances where you should call it a day are when you are beaten on the board or when you fail to have a good draw. It is crucial to keep these standard tactics in mind when playing five card.
Aside from knowing the everyday strategies, you should also have some more tricks up your sleeve in order to have some advantage over your opponents. Moreover, knowledge of some good five card tactics and tips will always save you cash in the end. One good tip is to always keep a close eye on your opponent to see if they are playing low up cards. If they are playing low up cards, it usually means that they have a pair or perhaps they are starting off the game poorly. You should also examine what type of playing character your opponent has to find out when they are bluffing or if they are the type of player that bluffs on a regular basis. Usually, when your opponent up cards beats your complete hand on the board, it is a good sign that you ought to fold.
There is a tendency for some player to take an excessive liking to their ace in the hole or become fond of playing low hole cards. This is not good five card strategy and hence, it should be avoided. You should also remember that becoming too predictable when playing five card will not help your game. Therefore, you should try to remain as unpredictable as possible by varying the way you play. A good way to add variations to your game is to form the habit of deliberately being caught bluffing every now and then. This way, you will always keep your opponents guessing and it could pay-off later than the line when you get weaker calls. This is because bluffing is sort of like a two-sided coin. If you pull off the bluff, then the pots are there for your taking. If not, then you might forfeit some chips but you still could have the advantage of benefiting from the bluff when you are strong later in the game and get weak calls. Furthermore, it always a good bet to follow your instincts because more time than not, your instincts usually come good. A good way to follow your instincts is to keep your eyes open and do not hesitate to look for reasons to fold early.
