21 Year Old Takes Out WPT Poker Championship and $21 million

26 April, 2009,  Rita Malhotra, Staff writer

He's just 21 years old and as of just a few hours ago, he is now $2.1 million richer.

Yevgeniy Timoshenko is one of the poker world's true rising stars who despite his tender age, has for some time now been knocking on the door of poker's big time.

Performances to date include strong results at the Paris Open, Aussie Millions and Irish Open before a beak through win at the 2008 APPT Macau main event.

But last night Yevgeniy took it up another notch and truly cracked the big time, taking out the prestigious Season 7 WPT Poker Championship, and a whopping $2.1 million first prize.

Timoshenko went into the final table a clear chip leader, thanks to a massive pot win that busted out seventh place getter Brian Rast and was cautiously optimistic but still mindful of the fact that he would still have to outplay some great players on the final table to come up trumps.  Big names participating in final table action included Christian Harder, ElkY Grospellier and WPT veteran Scotty Nguyen.

The win has Timoshenko now eyeing off a possible win at WSOP 2009.
