Online Craps 4 – Pass Line and Beyond...
The number one intimidator and/or source of irritation experienced by newcomers to online craps are all those numbers and boxes scrawled on the table. ‘Don’t Come Bar’, ‘Come’, ‘Don’t Pass Bar’, and what about all those little letter C’s and E’s? It just seems like too much, especially with all the betting tokens constantly coming on and off. Clearly all of this means something, but what? Mainly, all those boxes and bits on the board represent betting options. In this article we begin to unlock the mysteries of the board by exploring and discussing some of the better bets in online craps.
If you are tacitly familiar with online craps you may recall the pass line bet. This is the simplest bet in online craps, and one of the easiest wins in the entire online casino. Note the long ribbon shaped box running the edge of the craps board, the one labeled ‘PASS LINE’, that is where you click or otherwise place your chips. A pass line bet wins if the coming out roll is a 7 or 11, or if the shooter rolls a point and then hits the point on a subsequent roll before rolling a seven, i.e. before they seven-out.
In addition to the pass line there are a handful of other good bets in online craps, such as ‘free odds’, ‘don’t pass’, the ‘come bet’, and the ‘6 or 8’. Just above the ‘PASS LINE’ box you should see another thin field labeled ‘Don’t Pass Bar’. Chances are there are also two dice depicted on the felt showing a roll of 12. This bet can be an interesting twist as it wins if the coming out roll is a 2 or a 3, but loses on a 7 or 11. If the roll comes up 12 neither you nor the house wins or loses. If the shooter throws a point, the don’t pass bet will win if the shooter sevens out. Depending on the point, this can be a pretty easy bet to win. Consequently most online casinos pay significantly less than the true odds on don’t pass bets.
You should have little trouble locating where on the table the ‘come’ bet is made. If you need a hint, however, look for the rather large rectangle in the middle of the betting area with ‘COME’ printed inside with large red letters. Be sure you fully comprehend the pass line bet before dealing with the come. A come bet is similar to the pass line, only you place a come bet after the shooter rolls the point.
Suppose the point is 9 and you decide to put a come bet down. Like the don’t pass’ bet, if the shooter sevens out you win the bet. This bet loses, however, if the shooter throws any of the craps numbers (2, 3, or 12). However, if the shooter throws any other number this becomes your ‘come point’. In this case, your come bet can win only if the come point is hit before a seven and loses if the seven comes before the come point is hit.
A place bet is the last of the basic bets in online craps. This is a bet on a specific number (4, 5, 6, 5, 9, or 10), and that this specific number will be rolled before a 7 is hit. A place bet can be made at any time and is done by placing your tokens on the number upon which you wish to bet –note the large boxes at the top of the online craps table where the dealer marks the point. In general, placing 6 or 8 is the only bet of this type with both decent odds and a reasonable chance of success.
